A Gen Z Guide to Talking with God
Not performance. Not homework. Not something you do perfectly. Just a real conversation — one day at a time, for 21 days.
What This Is
This guide was built for people who have tried prayer and felt like they were doing it wrong. People who stopped. People who walked away for a season. People who show up but quietly wonder if any of it is real.
Every day runs about 3 minutes. No jargon. No performance. Just honest conversation with a God who already knows your name — and actually wants to hear from you.
How It Works
A short, honest look at what's actually going on with prayer — and with you. No warm-up. No filler. Straight in.
One specific thing to actually do. Not think about doing. Do. Takes less than 60 seconds. Changes more than you'd expect.
An optional prayer — honest words you can actually say to God. No performance required. Only say it if you actually mean it.
Each day also includes: Historical quotes from C.S. Lewis, E.M. Bounds, Charles Spurgeon, and John Wesley — pulled out of the appendix and woven into the days where they hit hardest. Plus a 60-second video prompt for each day to reinforce what you just read.
The 21 Days
Each week goes deeper than the last. Week 1 strips prayer back to basics. Week 2 brings it into real life. Week 3 goes to the hard territory.
I started getting a sense at work that things weren't going the way they should. Tasks being reassigned. New hires getting opportunities that should've been mine. Something was off — I could feel it, but I couldn't name it.
So I asked God for a sign. Not a vague feeling. Something specific — specific enough that I couldn't explain it away. I asked Him to show me the number 47 on the lottery billboard visible from I-70 if it was time to start seriously looking for a new job.
47. Right there. The exact number I'd asked for, on the exact sign, at the exact moment God's answer had already arrived. He was that specific. He answered in the precise language I'd requested — which told me everything I needed to know: this was His plan. And He had plans ahead.
Day 7 is about learning to slow down enough to notice when God speaks. This is what that looks like when you actually do.
Day 15 · Featured Story
She chose to trust God's plan over her own healing. She lived eighteen months. Her faith never moved. Her music is still online. Her father gave permission for her story to be in this book because he believes it will keep someone from walking away from God when their prayers go unanswered.
Built on Deep Roots
Each day in the guide draws on the theology of men and women who spent their lives going deeper in prayer than most people ever do. Their words are not outdated. They're more necessary now than ever.
Real Prayer is also shaped by the prayer and awakening ministry of Tim Sheets (AwakeningNow Prayer Network) and Gene Bailey (FlashPoint — Victory Channel) — voices calling this generation back to real prayer.
Prayer is not preparation for the battle — it is the battle.
I pray because I can't help myself. It doesn't change God. It changes me.
The man who knows how to pray knows how to work.
The time of business does not with me differ from the time of prayer.
